Mike and Misty take you on a research expedition to the Kuril Islands of Russia to understand how communities survived for thousands of years despite active volcanoes, frequent earthquakes, and unimaginable tsunamis. Mike, an archaeologist, worked for the University of Washington studying animal remains recovered from archaeological sites. Misty, a math and science teacher at Whatcom Day Academy and a textbook writer/editor used her experiences working with science researchers to develop classroom lessons. |
